Professional Heat Moulding for Figure Skates
Precision Fit, Tailored to Your Skates
At The Boot and Blade, we use specialist heat moulding techniques to help your skates feel like they were made for you. Every brand and model reacts differently to heat — which means every pair needs its own approach.
Our goal is to achieve a custom-fitted feel that enhances comfort, control, and performance on the ice — without compromising boot integrity.
Expert Techniques, Brand by Brand
Heat moulding isn’t a one-method-fits-all process.
Some boots, like Edea, require extreme precision: they should never go in an oven. Instead, they’re spot-heated and carefully manipulated by hand, allowing us to make micro-adjustments exactly where you need them — whether that’s relieving pressure over the ankle bone, reducing heel lift, or refining instep fit.
Other brands, such as Jackson, Risport, and Riedell, each have their own temperature tolerances and heat-retention profiles.
As experienced skate technicians, we select the appropriate tools, protect the structure of the boot, and work to manufacturer-approved standards to ensure a perfect and safe result.
When Is Heat Moulding Needed?
Even the best-fitting skates can benefit from heat work. It’s especially useful if you experience:
-
Pressure points or discomfort after initial break-in
-
Heel lift or minor movement inside the boot
-
Uneven tightness or asymmetry between feet
-
Persistent rubbing that doesn’t ease with wear
Heat moulding allows for targeted relief and fine-tuning, improving fit and comfort so you can focus on your skating, not your skates.
Included with Skate Purchases
When you purchase your boots from The Boot and Blade, heat moulding is included free of charge as part of your fitting process.
For skates purchased elsewhere, the service costs £15–£30, depending on complexity and the work required.
We always assess your boots first to determine the safest and most effective approach before applying heat.
