Fitting Appointments

Why Getting Your Skates Fitted Makes All the Difference

If you’re buying figure skates, the single most important step isn’t choosing the brand or colour — it’s making sure they actually fit. Too many skaters struggle in boots that were never right for them, and it holds them back from enjoying the sport.

That’s why at The Boot and Blade, we do things differently. Every fitting is one-to-one, appointment-based, and designed around you. We take the time to understand your skating, your feet, and your goals, so the skates you walk out with feel like they were made for you.

Why does a proper fitting matter?

  • Comfort you can rely on – Blisters, numbness, and painful pressure points are usually a sign the fit is off. With the right boots, your feet should feel secure but comfortable — so you can focus on skating, not your skates.

  • Confidence on the ice – Skates that fit properly give you better edge control, steadier landings, and more freedom to progress without being held back.

  • Lower risk of injury – The wrong boots can cause ankle strain, knee pain, or even long-term damage. Correct alignment and support mean you can train safely.

  • Better value in the long run – Skates that fit well last longer and wear more evenly. It’s an investment that pays off in comfort and performance.

  • Personalised adjustments – From custom widths and heat moulding to blade mounting and sharpening, we fine-tune every detail to match your skating.

What happens at your fitting?

Your appointment is about more than just trying on boots. We’ll:

  • Measure and analyse your foot shape, width, and arches

  • Talk about your skating level, discipline, and goals

  • Recommend boots and blades suited to you — not a one-size-fits-all option

  • Heat mould or adjust the boots so they fit like a glove

  • Mount and sharpen your blades so you’re ready to get straight on the ice

It’s all about you — not the brand, not the stock, but finding the perfect fit for your skating journey.

Our Love Skate Guarantee

Every fitting is backed by our Love Skate Guarantee. If something doesn’t feel right, we’ll adjust, modify, or even replace your boots until it does. You don’t just leave with skates — you leave with confidence that they’ll work for you.

FAQ

How long does a fitting take?
A fitting can take 1–2 hours. We’ll assess your feet properly, talk through your skating, and make adjustments so you leave confident and comfortable.

What should I bring?
Your current skates (if you have them), thin skating socks you normally wear, any orthotics/insoles, and a note of your skating level and goals.

Do you mount and sharpen blades as part of the fitting?
Yes. Blade mounting and sharpening are included with your fitting, so you’re set up for the ice straight away.

I’ve got wide/narrow feet or tricky fit issues — can you help?
That’s our specialty. We work with multiple boot widths, heat moulding, stretching and padding to get the fit just right.

Which brands do you fit?
We’re brand-agnostic and skater-first. We carry and recommend leading figure-skate brands, but the choice always comes down to your anatomy, level and goals.

Will new boots hurt to break in?
Break-in should feel snug but not painful. With the right sizing and heat moulding, break-in time is reduced. If anything feels off, we’ll adjust your boots until they’re right.

How do I know my current skates don’t fit?
Common signs include numb toes, heel lift, ankle pain, pressure points, or struggling to control edges. If you’re fighting your skates, it’s time for a fitting.

Can beginners book?
Absolutely. Starting with the right fit prevents discomfort, injuries and bad habits.

How much does a fitting cost?
A fitting appointment costs £30, but that cost is removed when you purchase skates from us.

Do you offer follow-up adjustments?
Yes. You’re covered by our Love Skate Guarantee — we’ll adjust and fine-tune your skates until they feel right for you.
