Blade Sharpening
Figure Skate Sharpening
A well sharpened blade is the foundation of confident skating.
At The Boot and Blade, sharpening isn’t rushed through a machine — it’s a precise process, done by hand, tailored to the way you skate. We use a Wissota machine with fine-grit wheels, which combined with our refined process gives an unparalleled finish on the ice.
Whether you’re a beginner finding your edges or a professional preparing for performance, your blades deserve nothing less.
Why it matters
A poor sharpening can hold you back: slips on take-offs, wobbly spins, or edges that don’t feel secure. Over-sharpening can wear blades down prematurely, while inconsistent hollows affect control. With expert sharpening, you’ll feel balance, stability, and flow every time you step onto the ice.
In the worst cases, a bad sharpen can permanently damage blades or distort the rocker with no way to correct them. We always recommend our skaters to return to us for sharpening where possible (or we can recommend highly skilled individuals across the country to help).
