Fitting Appointments
Fitting Appointments
Skates don't make the skater — but the right ones unlock what you're already capable of.
The right boots won't do the work for you. But they'll stop your equipment quietly undoing the work you're putting in. Properly-fitted skates give you responsive edges, steadier landings, and the freedom to focus on skating rather than your feet. The goal isn't comfort for its own sake — it's getting every bit of your training onto the ice.
At The Boot and Blade, we do fittings properly. Every appointment is one-to-one and built around you: your feet, your skating, your goals. No rush, no upsell, no one-size-fits-all. You leave with skates that feel like they were made for you — because in every way that matters, they were.
Why a proper fitting matters
- Performance that reflects your training. When your boots fit properly, your technique translates to the ice — crisper edges, steadier landings, real response from your feet. You get the skating you've been training for, not a muted version of it.
- Confidence to push forward. Trust in your boots means trust in your edges. That's what lets you commit to the next jump, spin, or level — rather than holding back.
- Protection under pressure. Ill-fitting boots cause ankle strain, knee pain, and sometimes lasting damage. Correct alignment and support let you train hard without paying for it.
- Adjustments tuned to you. From custom widths and heat moulding to blade mounting and sharpening, we fine-tune every detail to match your anatomy and your skating.
What happens at your fitting
Your appointment isn't just a shoe fitting — it's a conversation about your skating. We'll measure and analyse your feet, talk through your level, discipline and goals, recommend boots and blades suited to you (not just whatever's in the stockroom), then heat-mould, mount and sharpen so you're ready for the ice.
We take as long as it needs. Some fittings are quick; others aren't. We'd rather get it right than rush.
Our Love Skate Guarantee
Every fitting is backed by our Love Skate Guarantee. If something doesn't feel right, we'll keep adjusting — and if adjustments aren't enough, we'll replace them. You leave with skates that work, or we keep working.
The £30 fitting fee
Fittings are £30, and that covers everything we do on the day: fitting, heat moulding, blade mounting, sharpening, and adjustments — plus unlimited follow-up tweaks under the Love Skate Guarantee.
Charging for the appointment is how we can give every skater the time they actually need, stand behind the fit, and keep our advice skater-first rather than sales-first. The fitting itself is the service; the skates are just what some people choose to buy at the end of it.

FAQ
How much does a fitting cost? £30. That covers the whole appointment — fitting, heat moulding, blade mounting, sharpening, and adjustments — plus unlimited follow-up tweaks under our Love Skate Guarantee.
Why do you charge for fittings? Because a proper fitting is a real service, not a sales pitch with a measuring tape. The £30 lets us give each skater as much time as they need, stay skater-first rather than sales-first, and back every pair with our Love Skate Guarantee.
How long does a fitting take? As long as it needs to. Some fittings are quick; others take longer. We'd rather get it right than rush, and we'll always give you a sense of timing when you book.
What should I bring? Your current skates (if you have them), the thin skating socks you normally wear, any orthotics or insoles, and a note of your skating level and goals.
Do you mount and sharpen blades as part of the fitting? Yes. Blade mounting and sharpening are included, so you're set up for the ice straight away.
I've got wide/narrow feet or tricky fit issues — can you help? This is exactly what we're set up for. We work with multiple boot widths, heat moulding, stretching and padding to get the fit right — including feet that have been told they're "awkward" elsewhere.
Which brands do you fit? We're brand-agnostic and skater-first. We carry and recommend leading figure-skate brands, but the right choice always comes down to your anatomy, level and goals — not what's in stock.
Will new boots hurt to break in? Break-in should feel snug, not painful (though expect discomfort for the first few hours of skating). With proper sizing and heat moulding, break-in time is much shorter — and if anything feels off afterwards, we'll adjust until it's right.
How do I know my current skates don't fit? Common signs: numb toes, heel lift, ankle pain, pressure points, or struggling to control edges. If you're fighting your skates, it's time for a fitting.
Can beginners book? Absolutely. Starting with the right fit prevents discomfort, injuries, and bad habits before they form.
Do you offer follow-up adjustments? Yes — you're covered by our Love Skate Guarantee. We'll adjust and fine-tune your skates until they feel right for you.
