Blade Mounting

What Blade Size Do I Need for My Edea Boots?

Choosing the right blade size is one of the most important steps in setting up your figure skates. If the blade doesn’t match the boot, you risk problems with balance, mounting, and even premature wear.

To make things easier, Edea provides a comparative sizing chart that pairs boot sizes with blade lengths. Here’s what you need to know.

How Blade Sizing Works

Figure skate blades are measured in inches, but usually in quarter-inch increments (e.g. 8, 8 ¼, 8 ½). That’s because every foot — and every boot — needs a slightly different fit to position the rockers correctly.

Edea Blade Sizing Chart

Here’s the official comparative chart (in fourths of an inch). Match your boot size in millimetres to the recommended blade size:

Example:

  • A boot size 235 or 240 would require a 9” blade.

  • A boot size 265 or 270 would require a 10” blade.

  • The largest boot size, 310, takes an 11 ½” blade.

Why It Matters

A correctly sized blade ensures:

  • The toe pick and rockers are correctly positioned for optimal performance on the ice.

  • The blade edge runs correctly along your foot for proper balance.

  • Mounting holes align cleanly, so the boot isn’t stressed or damaged.

Too short or too long, and you’ll end up fighting your skates instead of focusing on your skating.

Our Approach at The Boot and Blade

We don’t just look at the chart and screw on a blade. During a fitting we check:

  • Your foot anatomy and pressure points – how your body aligns naturally, as this can impact the positioning of the blade.

  • Which blade would best suit your skating style and goals, helping you set off on the right foot.

From there, we select the right boot size, match the blade length, and do the mounting and sharpening in-house. That’s why skaters across the UK (and beyond) travel to us — to make sure everything feels right from the start.

FAQ

Q: What blade size do I need for Edea size 235 boots?
A: Edea boots in size 235 (or 240) usually take a 9” blade.

Q: How are figure skate blades measured?
A: Blades are measured in inches, in quarter-inch increments (e.g. 8 ¼, 8 ½). This helps match the blade more precisely to your boot length.

Q: Can I choose a blade size that’s slightly longer or shorter?
A: It’s always best to match the boot and blade exactly. A blade that’s too short or too long can affect your balance and stress the boot during mounting.

Q: Do I need professional help to fit blades on Edea boots?
A: Yes. Even if you're ordering the blades online, it's always important to have the blade fitted by a qualified skate technician. There's a lot that can go wrong when mounting a blade (and very often you might not notice until it's causing problems!).
