About The Boot and Blade

At The Boot & Blade, we believe every pair of skates should feel like they were made for you – we employ a wholistic approach to ensure that we help skaters be their best on the ice.

Over the last 5 years, we’ve worked with everyone from complete beginners through to Olympic level skaters – we’re trusted throughout the UK for expert fittings, precision craftsmanship, and our Love Skate Guarantee.

Our mission is simple: to help every skater feel confident, comfortable, and connected to the ice through the perfect fit. The Boot and Blade isn’t a skate shop — it’s a workshop of craft, care, and community.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Junior Skate Technician to join our team and learn the craft of fitting, fine-tuning, and caring for figure skates.

This is an apprentice-level position — perfect for a skater who wants to understand the technical side of the sport and grow into a specialist role.

You’ll train directly under our lead technician, learning how to:

  • Assess foot anatomy, boot shapre, stiffness and suitability
  • Diagnose skate discomfort and performance issues
  • Carry out moulding, spot adjustments and repairs
  • Mount, align, and sharpen blades with precision
  • Handle customer fittings and consultations with professionalism and warmth
  • Maintain workshop standards, tools, and equipment

It’s hands-on, detail-oriented work that combines craft, engineering, and skating know-how — all in service of helping skaters perform their best.

Who We’re Looking For

You don’t need to be a technician yet — we’ll teach you that.

But you do need to bring:

  • A genuine love of figure skating (you should be an active or former skater)
  • Curiosity for the why behind how skates feel and perform
  • Steady hands and an eye for detail — precision matters here
  • Problem-solving mindset: you like diagnosing, tinkering, and finding solutions on the spot
  • An approachable demeanour and a genuine enjoyment in talking to other skaters
  • Reliability and pride in your work
  • Willingness to learn, take feedback, and grow

This isn’t a retail job — it’s an introduction to a craft. Over time, you’ll develop the skills to run fittings independently and understand the biomechanics of skating at a professional level.

What You’ll Gain

  • Direct mentorship with hands-on learning
  • A clear, structured training path — with the opportunity to grow into a full technician role
  • Real-world experience solving problems for recreational, competitive, and professional skaters
  • Immersion in the UK skating community, from local rinks to elite tours
  • Pride in mastering a rare and respected skill

You’ll be part of a brand that stands for quality, trust, and skater-first service — where craftsmanship and care come before everything else.
